FASHION
"Innovation is often the ability to reach into the past and bring back what is good, what is beautiful, what is useful, what is lasting.”
Sister Parish
Fashion runs a parallel line with Interior Design. Think about it, every morning you wake up and get dressed you start with a blank canvas and can choose anything from your closet to put on and pull together to say something about how you feel that day or where you may be going. Your home is the same concept. You can choose each room to say something about you, your family, your interests and lifestyle.
I was talking to someone that once said she likes a lot of individual pieces but does not know how to tie them all together. She asked me how I know what a client likes and how I find out their style. Part of my discernment into a person’s style starts with the colors they wear most often, the prints or solids they prefer, and the casual or more formal their choices.
A great chandelier fixture is like a beautiful statement jewelry piece. An eye catching shoe that is either a bold color or an interesting shape is like the textile in a room that adds color and interest. What I love most about these two worlds is that they continually intersect in history and continue to inspire the future.
I like to look at what’s coming out on the runway to what’s being placed in the stores and I especially love street wear where the everyday person creates a work of art just by being creative with their attire. All of these ideas can translate into a well composed room and home.
